Sitting With Mary

We sit quietly with hands intertwined
My love for you flows through our touching fingertips
We have spent many hours together in this room
With few words spoken.

You slept most of the time,
Awakened only by the sound of your own cough
We had tea to warm us
Then you slept once again.
Eating breakfast together was a happy time
After you ate, we walked back to your favorite couch
Tucked in and comfortable you looked me in the eye
And said “Lets talk.
We spoke about the beauty of the white light
To be followed to the other side
And all the love that would welcome you
From all those to whom you had given so much of yourself.
Too many subjects to talk about in too short a time.
Then we again clasped first one hand, then intertwined both
And sat quietly and lovingly, both of us knowing.

Don't

You can mess with my heart
You can mess with my soul
You can mess with my mind
But don't mess with my hair
